Our Federal City was planned on land that began as a marshy swamp.  Pierre L'Enfant created the original quadrant design of the city, and today it is punctuated by many stately buildings.  The White House, U. S. Capitol and Supreme Court symbolize our three branches of constitutional power and are each architectural masterpieces.  The Library of Congress, Smithsonian and the National Cathedral are each impressive buildings.
